SEOs Are Switching to Claude Here’s Why (James Dooley & Dennis Yu)
Download MP3James Dooley: Why SEOs are switching from ChatGPT over to Claude for Chrome. Today I am joined with Dennis Yu who has done a lot of split testing on all the different types of LLMs to be able to get those AI agents working 24/7. So Dennis, the question for you today is why should SEOs be switching over from ChatGPT to Claude?
Dennis Yu: Well, James, there is no question that ChatGPT has a consumer advantage with over a billion monthly users. But did you know that in 2026, Claude went from 25 per cent market share to 70 per cent market share in business? So, us doing SEO as business to business, on behalf of other businesses, businesses want to get work done. It is not just about chatting. So all the processes we have for building sites, recording content and using tools. In the last couple of months you may have seen things like Claude dispatch, co-work and Opus 4.6 with a million tokens.
In the United States we had an issue where Claude temporarily doubled token credits outside core hours. In the last week, James, I burned 150 million tokens and it cost me $200 a month. What did I get done? I created around 600 articles. I linked together a whole network of sites. We got 10 new clients. I wrote three books. I processed podcasts. I had it send emails on my behalf.
I was on a call with a private equity guy where we are helping a client sell their company. The AI even wrote the foreword to his book. He read it out loud and it was incredible. So whatever you do as an SEO, you need to level up as a manager. Claude allows you to be a manager. All their tools are built around orchestration, Claude Code and what people call the harness. That is how you manage multiple AI agents. If you have processes, documentation and proven results, Claude at $200 a month gives insane leverage.
James Dooley: And how much would that cost if you were doing the same thing with ChatGPT? Or would it just time out and fail?
Dennis Yu: I use Opus 4.6, which has a million token context window. Input is about $5 per million tokens and output is $25 per million tokens. I will likely burn close to a billion tokens this month. That is easily $25,000 worth of usage. That is just one agent. I have multiple running.
James Dooley: So if someone is currently using ChatGPT and thinking about switching, especially if they want to replace manual work with automation, why would it make sense to use multiple $200 subscriptions instead of the API?
Dennis Yu: Because API costs spiral fast. This is like when Uber launched and burned money to gain market share. That is what Claude is doing against OpenAI. Anthropic has raised massive funding and is effectively subsidising usage. You may as well take advantage of that.
For migration, ask ChatGPT to export everything it knows about you. All conversations, workflows and SOPs. Store that in your drive. Then use it to train your new agent in Claude. A lot of people think they have a relationship with ChatGPT and do not want to leave. But once they transfer everything, Claude picks it up just as well.
The key issue is that ChatGPT agent mode times out after around 30 seconds. That means it cannot handle long-running, multi-step workflows. Anything that requires hours of execution becomes frustrating. It used to be strong, but now it struggles with sustained tasks. I still test both, but Claude consistently handles deeper workflows better.
James Dooley: Yes, that makes sense. So anyone watching this who is using ChatGPT as a casual user might still prefer it. But if you are an SEO trying to actually produce work, Claude is far more powerful. I have done exactly what you said. I exported everything, moved it into Claude and now I have multiple AI agents running. The productivity difference is huge.
So Dennis, it has been an absolute pleasure. Hopefully anyone watching this will now look at switching from ChatGPT to Claude and become significantly more productive.
